'Why don't you make like a tree, and get outta here!'


I don't know much about cars, but I know what I like. And back in 1985, when Back to the Future was originally released, the DeLorean was a pretty sweet, time travelling ride. It would have been hard to imagine anything else as cool as the DeLorean to serve as Marty and Doc's time machine. Unless of course, when you say cool, you actually mean it...literally. In some of the earlier drafts of the film, Robert Zemekis actually had the time travelling device attached to....wait for it....a refrigerator. Now, I can buy a time travelling necklace, I can buy a time travelling phone booth, I might even be able to buy a time travelling stitch in the ozone layer, but a refrigerator?? I guess it might have its advantages though. Sitting in the crisper, your head locked beneath the ice tray, at least you can satisfy your hunger with a nice cold, refreshing snack. Thankfully though, when Zemekis became concerned that children would be locking themselves in their refrigerators, he changed the time machine to a DeLorean. Stupid kids, smart directors.

Did you know that Michael J Fox was not the original actor hired to play Marty McFly? Actually, Eric Stoltz had already begun shooting on the film when he left the production because producers thought he wasn't convincing enough as a teenager. So they brought on the ever youthful Micheal J Fox to play 17 year old Marty. Incidentally, both actors were 24 in 1985, and M.J.F is 3 months older than Stoltz.
