'K-Mart sucks'


Only a mere few weeks into shooting the film, Dustin Hoffman was convinced that he had to quit. Telling Barry Levinson (director) that he was doing the worst acting of his life, Dustin wanted to leave the picture so Barry could hire someone else. They decided to give it some time and suddenly it became apparent to everyone on set, that Dustin had overcome his doubts and insecurities and had in fact become the character of Raymond. As we all remember, Dustin even won the Best Actor Academy Award for the role.

There were a few major airlines that having seen the film, would only allow it to be shown in-flight, if some particular scenes were cut. I suppose it wouldn't be very encouraging, when you're strapped into an airline seat, thousands of miles in the air and you're watching a film where the lead character is graphically reeling off the statistics of airline accidents and crashes. That is, unless you're flying Qantas.
